We few, we very few , we Merry Band!
Never has so much been collected by so few in such a short time. It only goes to prove it is quality that matters not quantity.
A depleted group of red-shirted die hards gathered for the annual walk to raise awareness from Sandbanks to Branksome Chine. Were we dismayed? Not after a rousing speech from the General Judith who invoked memories of past triumphs. We set off in high spirits. New comers Kay and John spread out, even making the beach itself a no go area for those shirking their charitable duties as we preceded onwards.
By now people should know if the General says we start at 10, 10 it is. Gradually we were joined by latecomers and special mention must be made of Brian and his wife and pusher Sandra who showed a turn of speed and stamina that made them ante-post favourite for the 2012 Para Olympics.
On reaching the half way point Val refreshed us with elevenses and we celebrated Brian’s birthday with a cake. Personally I was more impressed with the way he pulled that very attractive young American in the brown bikini but I was not really looking, honest!
The way back was highlighted by people running after us to donate money, the laggards returning clutching handfuls of coins.
Special credit must also go to Doug Horton who walked the whole route, a week’s worth of walking in one morning but he survived to sleep the sleep of the just and good all afternoon.
Thanks again to Judith who masterminded the walk with customary efficiency and banked the goodly sum of £146.40 from the collection on the walk.
