Sonje Jean Coldwell
Still waters run deep they say and our Sonje Coldwell, profile below, says little but her witty and pithy poems were in some ways the surprise hit of the show requiring emergency reprints and a host of people on a mailing list. In contrast, her imaginative interpretations of scenes from the Lord of the Rings are worthy of gracing a Portfolio edition of the epic books.
Born in 1950 Sonje was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease 3 July 2007.
Art has always been a major area of interest for her and indeed she won scholarship to attend Guildford School of Art at the age of 10 – one day a week for a year. Following on from her secondary schooling Sonje continued her artistic education by attending Salisbury College of Art full time for three years from the age of 16.
Eventually Sonje became qualified as a Graphic Designer. Utilising her talents she ran her own business as a tattoo artist for nine years prior to diagnosis. Previous to this she had worked in various areas in the World of Design ranging from window dressing, exhibition designing and in interior design.
Latterly Sonje has turned her creative talents to writing especially poetry.
