Jack Burkitt

 

Jack Burkitt, profile below, exhibited examples of his photographic work. Although there were human interest subjects, his deep love of things mechanical and technology showed through. His profile talked of rebuilding his MGB GT but made no mention of Waveney’s early life as a model, a salesman’s dream, enhancing the car’s image.

 

 

Born and educated in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Jack graduated from Sheffield University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first job was in Marketing but in the 1960’s he also played drums in a Lincoln rock group appearing with The Searchers, Barron Knights and Freddie Starr. Discovering a talent for writing he worked as an advertising copywriter and in public relations. Working for the earth moving industry he organised events and exhibitions all round Europe and the USA. Having moved to Poole in 1977 as Marketing Manager of a local engineering company he formed his own Management Consultancy in 1983 working for the DTI as well as for his own clients.

 

Prior to retirement in 2006 he specialised in photo-journalism, editing and producing the magazine “Top Gun” for DeVilbiss and handling the public relations for Poole Harbour Commissioners. He was a member of both the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute for Public Relations.

 

For 20 years Jack sailed competitively at Poole Yacht Club, competing in 4 UK National Championships and sailed several times in the Ionian islands winning his class in the 2005 Ionian Regatta. Always passionate about “wheels” he has rebuilt several cars and motor bikes and recently restored a 1967 MGB GT. A man of many interests from geology to sports his love of photography resulted in numerous advertising campaigns and sales brochures.
