East Dorset and New Forest Branch

About the Branch

The East Dorset and New Forest Branch is run entirely by our great band of volunteers, many of whom have extensive personal experience of the disease through family & friends. The branch was started in 1986 with just a few people who had family members with MND and hasn't looked back since; we’re now a very active & happy team working together to raise funds and awareness.

The administration of the branch is undertaken from their homes which means that, as we do not have the expense of an office and apart from basic running costs, we are able to offer more support to local people with MND. We are able to use the office of Poole Council for Voluntary Services as our postal address and messages may be left on the answerphone.

We have a busy calendar and try to make every event enjoyable and fun for everyone taking part whilst, at the same time, not losing sight of our aims; a world free of MND.

In the meantime, we will still give all the support & friendship we can to those in our area affected by MND. The branch offers support from trained & experienced visitors either at home or by phone, aromatherapy, podiatry, cleaning and gardening as well as support grants for items that help improve the quality of life for someone living with MND. We have, in the past, made contributions for wetrooms, stair lifts, toileting requirements, communication equipment as well as helping fund health professionals, such as speech therapists & palliative care specialists, to attend study days and local and national seminars. We are very lucky to have such NHS professionals in our area who give above and beyond with their time and skills.

We are always interested in hearing from people who can help with events or who want to get involved with running the branch and further details are on the Volunteer & Contact pages. There’s always room for more volunteers!
