Hotel Acorn Santa Lucia, Palma Nova, Majorca
This hotel overlooks the beach and is minutes away from shops, bars and restaurants. It has adapted rooms available. Access to this hotel is up a slight incline then straight into the reception area. Details of the hotel can be found at http://www.hotelesglobales.com/cgi-vel/globales/index.pro?idi=0 and select the required hotel link under 'Accommodation'.
This hotel and resort is absolutely ideal for disabled people. The hotel has 7 adapted rooms and if all of them are to the standard of the one we stayed in then they are all OK. The room was big enough for me to use and stay in my wheelchair. I could even get into the bathroom in it. The bathroom has grab rails for the toilet and shower area. The toilet was a bit low but a high seat can be hired if the need is there. The shower has a pull down seat and though the grab rails are not ideally positioned I managed OK. The shower is not a wheel in shower so there is a slight threshold to get your foot over. Scooters, wheelchairs and all sorts of aids can be hired from a shop in the hotel reception area. In fact there were that many scooters being used while we were there that it was hard to get a socket to use the battery charger. The food was OK and the restaurant and bars were all wheelchair accessible. There are disabled toilets on the ground floor in the reception area. The pool area was wheelchair accessible. All in all we had a pretty relaxing holiday there and will definitely go back again.

Recommendation
I thought you would like to know about my holiday in Devon last year.
It is called Blagdon Farm in Beaworthy. The nearest town is Launceston, which is a good hour’s drive away, so it is way out in the country. There are lovely cottages of varying sizes all with balconies overlooking the lake. They are all very well furnished and wheelchair friendly. The ducks and chickens come every day to be fed.
It is self-catering but there is a small café where meals can be ordered and sent to your cottage or you can have a meal there.
They also cater for families and have a play area for the children.
I would recommend it to anybody for a very relaxing holiday.
Margaret Beach

Disabled
Access Holidays, Puerto Pollensa, Majorca
7th September 2006 - We have just come back from a 2 week, self catering holiday in Puerto Pollensa, Majorca. We stayed in the 1st floor apartment in the apartment block in the picture above. Access was by lift and the lift took a normal size wheelchair with room to spare and I managed to get a scooter in there, but no spare room that time. The apartment was adapted for disabled people and is well equipped. The apartment is 2 minutes from the main square and also 2 minutes from the beach. For full details of the apartments available got to www.dah-europe.com
We arranged the holiday online, using Thomson airlines from Bournemouth and got travel Insurance from Free Spirit and we were able to arrange the flights and insurance online as well.
Puerto Pollensa is an absolute delight and is very flat, which is good for wheelchairs. The promenade is very long and goes into the ‘Pine Walk’ which is great. The beach is safe and the sea is warm, so my wife Betty told me. No access on to the beach for wheelchairs but with the pine trees there is a good deal of shade. Like all Spanish towns their idea of dropped kerbs isn’t too good and dropped kerbs may be one side of a pedestrian crossing but not the other side but you soon get used to that. There are many restaurants both in the square and along the promenade that supply wonderful meals, even for vegetarians like us!
It is a place we would certainly recommend and if you like self catering then the apartment is ideal.
Gil Rice.

Premier Inns
We had a holiday with ex RAF friends in N Ireland. As their accommodation wasn't suitable for us to stay in we had to find a suitable hotel. My friend did a bit of research and came up with a hotel in Belfast city centre. We checked it out of the Internet and found it was a Premier Inn. They are a chain of Inns nationwide so on their website they don't have photographs of their hotels. They do however have adapted rooms available and these rooms are the ones with a shower in. Having got to hotel we booked in and were pleasantly surprised at the efficient and friendly way we were dealt with. The room, all be it on the 8th floor, was huge so plenty of room for a wheelchair. The shower was in a wet room which was extremely well adapted with plenty of grab rails which were also well positioned. The bed was a bit low for me so we asked if we could have a higher bed and it was there almost immediately. The restaurant was fine and the breakfast was either a full English or a continental. We had Bed and Breakfast for the week. I can highly recommend the Premier Inns as a good place to stay in if you are visiting friends or family who can't accommodate you for whatever reason. To check for hotels in the area you are visiting then go to their website at www.premierinn.com As always ensure that the hotel fully accommodates your specific needs before booking.
We had a great time in N Ireland with our friends and revisited places where we'd lived and gone to while stationed there at RAF Ballykelly in the mid 1960s. We hadn't been there or seen our friends for over 40 years.
